HALO App Privacy Notice

What HALO is

HALO Emergency Management is a private emergency-management application for authorized Byne Christian School staff. It supports emergency reporting, protective directives, response plans, staff check-ins, accountability, reunification, and controlled drills. The current release is distributed in a controlled testing configuration with live emergency activation disabled. HALO does not replace 911, campus alarms, public-address or radio instructions, or official emergency services.

Information HALO collects

Depending on the features an authorized user uses, HALO may collect:

• contact information, including name, email address, and phone number;
• account and device identifiers used to authenticate and secure access;
• precise location provided while the app is in use for an authorized report or check-in;
• emergency or drill accountability status, such as Safe or Need Help;
• user-provided report details, notes, and other emergency-management content;
• current-day staff, student, and visitor roster information supplied by authorized school systems when those integrations are approved and enabled; and
• product interactions and other usage data needed to operate, secure, audit, and troubleshoot the app.

How information is used

HALO uses this information only for app functionality: providing approved staff access, supporting emergency and announced drill workflows, displaying approved response plans, recording reports and check-ins, maintaining accountability and reunification status, delivering authorized notifications, investigating reliability or security issues, and preserving appropriate operational audit records.

Location information

HALO requests location only while the app is being used for an authorized report or check-in. The app does not use continuous background location tracking. A user may deny location access, though location-dependent reporting and accountability features may then be limited.

Sharing and tracking

HALO information is limited to authorized Byne personnel and technology service providers that help operate authentication, hosting, notifications, security, and app distribution. Byne does not sell HALO personal information, use it for third-party advertising, or track users across other companies' apps or websites for advertising purposes. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect people, systems, or legal rights.

Retention and security

Byne applies administrative and technical safeguards intended to limit HALO information to authorized users and services. Information is retained only as long as reasonably needed for emergency management, drills, safety, security, audit, operational, and legal purposes described above, then deleted or de-identified when appropriate.

Authorized users and children

HALO accounts are limited to approved staff and the app is not directed to children or students. When an approved student-information integration is enabled, HALO may receive the minimum current-day student roster information needed for emergency accountability. Students do not create HALO accounts or submit information directly through the app.

Your choices and requests

Authorized users may control location permission in their device settings. To request access, correction, or deletion of HALO account information, or to ask a privacy question, contact Byne. Some information may need to be retained for security, audit, legal, or operational obligations.

Changes to this notice

Byne may update this notice when HALO features, practices, or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version. The separate Byne website privacy notice applies when you visit this page or other pages on byne.org.
