Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Byne Baptist Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
The Bible
We believe and affirm that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the infallible, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God, given by inspiration in the original writings, and are the all-sufficient and final authority in matters of faith, doctrine, and Christian living. (Matthew 5:18; 7:28-29; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 1:19-21; Revelation 22:18-19)
The Trinity
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; John 1:1; 4:24; 10:30; 17:11, 21, 22; 20:22; Romans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Timothy 3:16; 1 John 5:7)
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He is the Head of the Church, which is composed of all true believers. We believe in His deity, His sinless life, vicarious death, bodily resurrection, and personal, imminent return. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-21; 16:15-19, 27; 28:18; Mark 14:35-36; Luke 1:30-35; John 14:1-3; 19:16-18; 20:11-17; Acts 1:9-11; 2:36; 18:28; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 1:20-23; Philippians 2:5-11; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; 3:16; Hebrews 4:14-15; 12:2; 13:8; 1 Peter 2:21-25; 3:22)
The Local Church
We believe that the local church is a body of baptized believers united for the purpose of glorifying God and promoting the Gospel. (Matthew 18:15-20; Acts 2:41-42, 47; 5:11-14; 16:5; 20:28; 1 Corinthians 1:2; Ephesians 1:22-23; 3:21; Colossians 1:18; 1 Peter 1:15-16)
Mankind
We believe that mankind was created by God in His image, but man sinned from the beginning in the Garden of Eden and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death which is separation from God for everyone born since then. All human beings are born with a sinful nature and are in need of redemption. (Genesis 1:26-30; 2:7, 8-22; 3:6-7, 16-19, 23; Psalm 1; 8:3-6; 51:2-5; Acts 17:26-31; Romans 1:19-32; 3:23; 5:12, 19; 1 Corinthians 15:22)
Salvation
We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins as a substitutionary sacrifice, that He was raised on the third day; and that He ascended into Heaven and is now seated at the right hand of Almighty God as our High Priest and Advocate. We receive redemption, or salvation, when we put our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. At that point we believe we are born again of the Holy Spirit who indwells us and allows us to thereby become children of God. (John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 6:6; 7:24-25; 8:14-16; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 15:1-4; Ephesians 1:13-14; 2:8-9; Titus 2:13-14; Hebrews 1:1-3; 9:12-15, 24-28; 1 John 4:14-15; Revelation 3:20; 5:9-14)
Eternal Security
We believe that a genuine relationship with God through faith in His Son, Jesus, gives us eternal security with Him. (John 3:16; 10:28: 11:26; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13)
The Ministry of the Holy Spirit
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit whose indwelling power and fullness enables the Christian to live a Godly and holy life in this present world. (Luke 24:49; John 14:16-17, 26; 15:26; 16:7; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9,16, 26; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 12:7; Galations 4:6; Ephesians 4:30)
Resurrection, Heaven, and Hell
We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those saved unto an eternal resurrected life with God, and those lost unto a resurrection of eternal conscious punishment and damnation. (Job 22:12; Psalm 9:17; 55:15; Proverbs 7:27; Mark 3:29; Luke 14:14; 16:23-31; John 3:18; 5:28-29; 11:23-25; Romans 6:3-5; 2 Corinthians 5:1; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Thessalonians 1;7-9; 2 Peter 2:4-9; Jude 7; Revelation 6:8; 20:14-15; 21:1-8)
Ordinances
We believe that the ordinances required of the Church are those of Baptism by immersion and the LORD'S Supper. (Matthew 3:13-16; 26:26-30; Acts 2:41; 8:35-39; 16:30-33; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
Family and Marriage
We believe that God ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. Furthermore, we believe that marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in a covenant commitment for a lifetime. (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:15-24; Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 6:7; Joshua 24:15; Psalm 127:1; Proverbs 1:8; 6:20-23; 18:22; 22:6; 24:3; 29:17; Matthew 5:31-32; 19:3-9; Mark 10:6-12; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Corinthians 7:1-16; Ephesians 5:21-33; 6:1-4; Colossians 3:18-21; 1 Timothy 5:8; Hebrews 13;4; 1 Peter 3:1-7)
Sanctity of Life
We believe in and uphold the sanctity of human life from conception until death. (Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 18:10-14)
We adhere to the "Baptist Faith and Message" as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention on June 14, 2000. More extensive explanation of these and other beliefs with Scripture references may be found in the "Baptist Faith and Message" at the SBC website (www.sbc.net).
